NEW YORK (Sputnik) — A coalition of 16 state Attorneys General have filed a new friends-of-the-court brief opposing US President Donald Trump's third iteration of travel ban they had called "unconstitutional."
According to a press release of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, "The Trump Administration’s continued efforts to discriminate undermine New York’s families, institutions, and businesses — and we’ll continue to fight back."
The brief urges the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit to affirm the injunction against the third version of Trump’s travel ban issued by a Maryland district court.
The brief was filed by the Attorneys General of US states of New York, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and the District of Columbia.
Refugees Welcome
The same day, US Senator Chris Murphy proposed a new legislation dubbed No Ban on Refugees Act that would restrict the federal government from barring refugees seeking to come to the United States from 11 Muslim-majority countries.
Murphy argued in the release that Trump's executive action would undermine the US safety and security, because it would help Daesh recruit new members.
According to the senator, displaced persons who have gone through thorough the vetting system do not present danger to the United States.

On November 13, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit allowed portions of President Donald Trump's latest version of a travel ban to go into effect, despite a restraining order issued in mid-October.
Trump's latest travel ban bars entry in the United States by nationals of six Muslim majority countries — Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and Chad — as well as all citizens of North Korea and government officials from Venezuela.
