New Delhi (Sputnik) — Professor Vijay Nath Mishra of India's Banaras Hindu University (BHU) along with a small team of research scholars, have developed a porn blocker application that not only blocks "inappropriate" content on the internet but also redirects users to devotional songs and chants.
While the tool has not been officially adopted by the university, the institute's medical superintendent OP Upadhyay applauded 'Har Har Mahadev', calling it a "very good step."

Other members of Mishra's team include BHU research scholars Smriti Singh and Akanksha Srivastav, developer Ankit Shrivastav and journalists Aman and Ankit.
"We have developed the website blocker and internet filtering services, so one can surf safely without any fear of opening adult or objectionable sites. We want to give an option to parents and office spaces to block such content and keep students and employees focused on their goals. We are not blocking porn but just providing a tool to those who want to do it. Think especially from the perspective of an 8-9-year-old kid who has access to all kinds of electronic gadgets and parents who are not able to keep tabs on what they are doing all the time," Dr. Vijay Nath Mishra of Institute of Medical Sciences- Banaras Hindu University's neurology department told Sputnik.
While the app is currently in its beta stage with only Hindu devotional songs, Dr. Mishra clarified it would soon have a pan-religious appeal.
The Har Har Mahadev was developed over a period of six months and is currently designed to block around 3,800 sites that produce obscene content.
