The Council of the European Union has announced that Amsterdam will become the new host for the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
Citing sources familiar with the matter, Press TV reports that the new EMA host was determined via an intense vote, held during a meeting of the EU national ministers, with the third-round runoff resulting in a tie between Amsterdam and Milan, with each city securing 13 votes.
This development prompted the Estonian minister who was chairing the meeting to make an apparently unprecedented move and draw lots to determine the winner, resulting in the victory for the Dutch capital.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is a EU agency for the evaluation of medicinal products.
Originally based in London, the EMA had to relocate its offices following the results of the Brexit referendum, which heralded the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU.
