Watch Millions of Crabs Rush Towards the Sea During Their Migration Routine
10:03 GMT 21.11.2017 (Updated: 19:32 GMT 19.10.2022) Christmas Island red crabs are known for their annual mass migration to the Indian Ocean. For most of the year, these tiny inhabitants of Australia’s islands can be found within forests, but when the wet season begins – usually in November – tens of millions of red crabs make way for the coast, where they breed and lay eggs.
The entire journey takes about 18 days. To keep little crabs out of harm's way, locals have placed warning signs and built bridges and other facilities.
