"Banking Fatwa": Le Pen Vows Complaint in Response to Closure of Her Accounts
12:16 GMT 22.11.2017 (Updated: 12:29 GMT 22.11.2017) Societe Generale, its subsidiary Credit du Nord and HSBC have reportedly closed the bank accounts of French National Front party leader Marine Le Pen.
French National Front party leader Marine Le Pen has said on her Twitter page that she would lodge a lawsuit against what she described as a "banking fatwa."
"We will file a complaint over political discrimination. I appeal to our executives, to my 11 million voters, and more generally to all the French who defend democracy, to tackle all the consequences of this banking fatwa of which we are victims!" she said.
Reuters quoted Le Pen as saying at a news conference that "this is an attempt to suffocate an opposition party."
