Belarusian President Alexandro Lukashenko said he was deeply impressed by the features of a Tesla Model S electric car he recently test drove.
"You can drive it at any speed. Honestly, I drove 280 kph and was afraid that it [the car] would fly. Such speed is common for a plane during takeoff or landing. A very good car," the Belarus leader said, cited by BelTA.
Lukashenko raised hopes that the country's residents will be able to drive a domestically produced electric car in the near future.
"We will have enough electricity when we launch a nuclear power plant," he said, adding that the most difficult task would be to create a battery that can last for 500-600 km at a speed of 100 kph.
"I'm counting on our Chinese partners that they will work together with us to create an electric vehicle at Geely [a China-based automotive manufacturing company]. Experts of the National Academy of Sciences are already seriously working on the car," he said.
Earlier, the Belarusian leader was reportedly presented with a Geely electric car during his visit to the Belgee factory, an automotive joint venture of China and Belarus.
