18:50 GMT 27.11.2017 (Updated: 18:52 GMT 27.11.2017) Having apparently given up on forming a so called 'Jamaica coalition', German Chancellor Angela Merkel now considers an alliance with the Social Democrats, even though not long ago she also mulled the possibility of snap elections as well.
After briefly toying with the idea of holding snap elections, Chancellor Merkel is now seeking to establish a coalition with her former allies from the Social Democratic Party of Germany in order to form a new federal government.
