WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Hvorostovsky's album "Sviridov: Russia Cast Adrift" was chosen to compete for the best classical music solo album, the website explained. Conductor Constantine Orbelian of the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra was included in the nomination.

On November 22, Hvorostovsky died at the age of 55 in London after battling brain cancer for more than two years. On November 27, the memorial ceremony for Dmitri Hvorostovsky took place at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow.
The singer won international acclaim for performances at the world’s major opera houses, including at London's Royal Opera, Vienna’s State Opera, New York's Metropolitan Opera, Moscow’s Bolshoi theater and elsewhere. Hvorostovsky final recording, in the title role of Rigoletto, was released earlier this month.
