UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Countries around the world must cut off their commercial, diplomatic, military and any other ties with North Korea after its recent missile launch in violation of a UN Security Council resolution, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said.

"Today, we call on all nations to cut off all ties with North Korea. In addition to fully implementing all UN sanctions all countries should severe diplomatic relations with North Korea and limit military, scientific, technical or commercial cooperation," Haley told the UN Security Council on Wednesday.

Moreover, Haley said the countries of the world "must also cut off trade with the regime by stopping all imports and exports and expel all North Korean workers," adding that the United States has already asked China to cut off all oil supplies to North Korea.

The statement comes after Pyongyang test-fired its new intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-15, which, as the country's government claims, is capable of reaching any target throughout the United States.

North Korea has come under fierce criticism from the international community after the test which was conducted in violation of the UNSC resolutions. Early on Thursday, an emergency UNSC meeting over the recent launch is set to take place at the initiative of Japan, South Korea and the United States.
