The World Anti-Doping Agency has banned the Romanian Doping Control Laboratory from any anti-doping activities.

"The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has provisionally suspended the WADA accreditation of the Romanian Doping Control Laboratory (Bucharest Laboratory) due to non-compliances with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL)," the statement issued on Thursday read.

According to the statement, the laboratory is banned from carrying out any anti-doping activities including all analyses of urine and blood samples and is required to redirect them to another WADA-accredited laboratory to "ensure continued high-quality sample analysis, which also helps preserve athletes' confidence in this process and of the wider anti-doping system".

The suspension will remain in force pending disciplinary proceedings performed by an independent committee, which will make a recommendation to the Chair of the WADA Executive Committee concerning the status of the lab's accreditation.
