India’s latest crime data reveals a total of 382 cases of crimes were committed against foreign nationals in India with the capital New Delhi retaining its notorious distinction of being the most unsafe Indian destination for foreigners.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — New Delhi continues to be the most unsafe place in India for foreigners with 382 cases of crime against foreign nationals registered in 2016. The country's crime record keeping agency — NCRB — has revealed that at least 12 foreigners were murdered, 19 foreign nationals were raped and around 38 cases were reported under the section "assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty" in New Delhi. This accounted for forty percent of the total cases reported from across the country in the same period.

Delhi alone accounted for 154 cases, followed by 38 cases in Maharashtra, 33 in Puducherry and 22 in Goa. Other popular tourist destinations like Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Manipur and Uttarakhand have been marked as most safe with zero crime against foreigners.

As the data suggests, 2016 recorded a slight increase in such cases as against 365 accounts of crime against foreigners recorded in 2015. In 2015 too, Delhi had ranked topmost in the list of most unsafe Indian destinations for foreigners. The figure is however 25% lower than the 486 registered cases in 2014.
