MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has been attacked and racially abused upon arrival to the team’s training facility to prepare for the game against Tottenham Hotspur, the Telegraph newspaper reported Sunday, adding that the incident took place on Saturday morning.
According to the media outlet, the assailant was waiting for Sterling next to the training base and began to racially abuse the player when he was pulling into the entrance. When Sterling got out of his car, the man reportedly kicked him in the leg.
The report noted that it was not clear whether the team decided to report the incident to the police, but the attack was presumably recorded by CCTV.
Sterling did not suffer any injuries, the newspaper added.
The Twitter audience has responded to the accident, expressing anger and calling it "inexcusable."
I find it absurd enough when city fans talk down about Sterling but this is inexcusable. What’s more sad is that this is no longer shocking. No matter what country you call home, this is prevalent. Needs to end. #ComeOnCity
