German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière came up with a proposal to establish a post for a special representative on anti-Semitism, according to media reports.
"I think it would be the right thing to do to create a post of an anti-Semitism officer, and this is not only because of the recent incidents," the CDU politician told Bild am Sonntag.
According to him, the initiative was recommended to him by an independent expert commission at the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

"Any anti-Semitic offense is… a shame for our country," de Maizière said, adding that "anti-Semitism must never again take hold in Germany."
His statement came one week after pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Berlin, during which Israeli flags were burned and anti-Semitic slogans chanted.

The rallies were triggered by US President Donald Trump's recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"We can't tolerate the burning of state flags in public, it is the symbolic destruction of a country's right to exist," de Maizière said, commenting on the protests.
According to the newspaper, it is up to the new government to decide on where exactly the new office would be placed.
