MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia and Sudan have signed an agreement to construct a nuclear power plant in the North African country, Russia’s Rosatom said Friday.

The agreement was signed by Rosatom’s subsidiary Rusatom Overseas and the Sudanese Ministry of Water Resources, Irrigation and Electricity.

As part of the feasibility study of the NPP construction project, the site will be selected and the key parameters for the project will be identified: technology, capacity, equipment, terms and stages of implementation, and financing schemes.

The development of cooperation in the nuclear field between Russia and the Sudan began this year. During the visit of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes was signed.
