According to the AP news agency, citing Mthuthuzeli Swartz, the acting CEO of the state-owned passenger rail agency, people died in the train crash in in Free State province of South Africa were trapped and burned to death when some carriages caught fire. He stated that the deadly accident claimed lives of at least 18 people.
As the country's transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi announced, about 260 people were injured in the crash.
A train has crashed into a truck en route between Hennenman and Kroonstad in South Africa, as ER24, an emergency service stated on their twitter.
According to the videos from the scene, at least one carriage has caught fire.
