St. Petersburg city authorities are constructing special facilities where boozed up football fans can sleep off their buzz in comfort and safety.
City Governor Georgy Poltavchenko said that special areas for ascertaining the level of inebriation need to be created in every district.
"’Stuffing’ them in regular hospitals is a no-no, they (the fans) are a rather quirky crowd. We need to build a special facility for them, and we’ll find enough money to do so," he said.
According to the governor, these measures will help deal with crimes committed under influence.
Russia will host its first FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, 2018. The matches will be held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg and Sochi, with the opening match scheduled to take place in Russia’s capital.
