Police have detained a gunman, who had opened fire on a street in the French city of Marseille.
A special operation has been conducted in order to neutralize the suspect, according to La Provence.
After opening fire, the suspect, whose motive remains unclear, barricaded himself in a building.
A police source was cited by France Bleu as saying that the incident is unlikely to be linked to terrorism.

There have been no reports of casualties as a result of the incident so far.

The security situation in France has been tense since the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks, claimed by Daesh. Since then, France had been in a state of emergency, which was replaced by an anti-terrorist legislation in October 2017. The law, which has been widely criticized as compromising the rights and liberties of the French people, created a permanent emergency state and granting the police extra powers to raid houses without warrants.
