A former university teacher and once a member of the Communist Party of Russian Federation, in 2010 Maxim Suraykin, 39, became the leader of the Communists of Russia, a public organization which became registered as a political party in 2012 and eventually nominated him as a candidate for the 2018 presidential election.
Maxim Suraykin hopes to revive the Soviet-era socialist economy, and promises to nationalize the banking system and to close the income gap between workers and management. He also emphasizes the need to fight corruption, confiscate ill-gotten funds and property, and bring back people's committees to control the finances of enterprises.
