More than 100,000 people have marched from Red Square onward to the main streets of the Russian capital to commemorate spring and Labor Day in Moscow. Moscow citizens carried flowers, especially tulips and lilacs, as symbols of spring, and children played with balloons, as this time usually is used by Russians to spend time with their families.

Turkey and Greece have also held May Day demonstrations, with several thousand people in attendance.

Nearly 6,500 people took part in the rallies dedicated to the International Workers' Day in the Russian capital, which were organized by two Russian political parties, the Moscow City Police stated.
According to the Communist Party of Russia, their rally gathered 3,500 people. It kicked off in the center of Moscow and will end up with a rally on Teatralnaya Square.
The Liberal Democratic Party said that its rally on Pushkinskaya Square was attended by 3,000 people.
Moscow police and the Russian National Guard are ensuring security at the events.

Labor Day is celebrated in many countries on the first day of May. It was officially established in 1889 at the first International Socialist Congress in Paris to commemorate the Haymarket Affair, a deadly labor demonstration for an eight-hour workday in Chicago in 1886.
