"No, there is still no clarity. There are no substantive contacts on this issue, despite the fact that the presidents of Russia and the United States agreed to instruct the foreign minister and the state secretary to get in touch. Despite the US president’s readiness and the willingness to meet, there have been no any other steps yet. We are waiting," Peskov told reporters when asked whether there was clarity on when the meeting would take place.
When asked about any "non-substantive contacts," the spokesman said that diplomatic ties had been maintained on a permanent basis, adding that such contacts were not enough to the discuss potential details of a meeting between the two heads of state.
In March, Trump held a phone conversation with Putin, during which he congratulated the Russian president on victory in the presidential election and invited him to come to the United States.

During the presidential race and after his victory Trump has repeatedly stated that he would like to improve relations between Russia and the United States. However, the relations between Moscow and Washington have recently reached what Trump has called their lowest point. A number of issues, such as the Ukrainian crisis, several rounds of Western sanctions and alleged Russian meddling in the US presidential election have cast a shadow over contacts between the two nations.
