US President Donald Trump has posted on Twitter that five of the most dangerous leaders of the Daesh* terrorist group have been caught but has not provided any details.

The US-led coalition, comprising more than 70 members, is conducting military operations against the Daesh terror group in Syria and Iraq.

However, Brett McGurk, the Special Envoy for Global Coalition Counter the Islamic State, said that five top Daesh commanders were captured by Iraqi Security Forces in coordination with Syrian Democratic Forces in the Iraq-Syria border region.

Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman Ryan Dillon said in a separate statement that the leaders’ capture represents a significant blow to the terror group and showcases close coordination between the Iraqi and Syrian security forces in their fight to defeat the Daesh.

Earlier in April, Iraqi authorities arrested an influential leader of the Daesh terrorist group in the city of Mosul.

The US-led coalition has been launching airstrikes on Syria since 2014 in an anti-Daesh campaign that is neither sanctioned by the Syrian government nor the UN.

Right now, approximately 2,000 US troops are deployed in the Arab country.

US-North Korea Meeting

The US president said he would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on June 12 in Singapore.

Earlier, speaking about the results of a visit to Pyongyang by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Trump noted that the time and place of the meeting with Kim Jong-un had been determined.

The location of the upcoming meeting was revealed hours after three American prisoners were released by North Korea and came back to the United States.

Trump said upon their arrival that he believes that Kim wants to bring North Korea "into the real world" and has high expectations for their planned meeting, which would be the first between a serving US president and a North Korean leader.

In April, Kim said that his country would stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles as well as shut down the nuclear test site. Trump welcomed the announcement calling it a "big progress."

US Officials Moving Forward to Convene Trump-Kim Summit in Singapore - Reports
The change in the relationship between the United States and North Korea comes after Washington imposed a series of sanctions against Pyongyang and pledged to continue the maximum pressure campaign.

Trump has repeatedly stated all options were on the table to resolve the North Korea issue. He also noted that if the meeting with Kim will not take the right course, he may walk out or cancel the summit.

The situation on the Korean peninsula escalated in the past two years due to North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile tests, which led to heightened tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.
