Brazil has defeated Costa Rica’s national team at St. Petersburg Stadium, in a match that started at 3:00 p.m. Moscow time (12:00 p.m. GMT).

Philippe Coutinho scored the match’s first goal in the 91st minute during extra time.

Neymar has scored the second goal in the 97th minute of the match, thus making history by scoring the latest World Cup goal in normal time.

Brazil is currently top of the group, having earned four points after two games, with one match left to play against Serbia, while Costa Rica has been eliminated from the tournament after losing both their opening matches.

Brazil midfielder Philippe Coutinho was named the man of the match after he helped his side defeat Costa Rica 2-0 in their second Group E match in St. Petersburg. Philippe Coutinho broke the deadlock for Brazil by tapping in Gabriel Jesus's flick-on, also in stoppage time.

After a goalless first half, which saw Jesus' goal ruled out for offside, the 21-year-old Manchester City player hit the crossbar five minutes after the break.

The head official for the match is Bjorn Kuipers, a Dutch football referee.

Both teams failed to win their 2018 World Cup openers.

A total of 64,468 fans attended the FIFA World Cup match between Brazil and Costa Rica in St. Petersburg, FIFA said.

Neymar has become a meme with his "drama queen" moves and numerous falls.

Neymar cries after scoring his first goal at FIFA World Cup.

After Neymar's goal, the happy footballers knocked down their head coach.

Brazil head coach Tite hurt his foot celebrating his team’s first goal. Tite’s reaction to Coutinho’s goal was so emotional, that he ran into one of his assistants on the pitch and later walked into the post-match press conference limping.

"I probably pulled a muscle, maybe tore a ligament. Just kidding. However I limped here, to the press conference," Tite told journalists.

Achilles the cat, who lives at St. Petersburg's Hermitage Museum and serves as the animal oracle for the FIFA World Cup, has predicted that Brazil will beat Costa Rica in their group E match.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup started on June 14 and will continue through July 15, with a total of 64 matches being played at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities.
