MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The leaders of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) during the association’s 10th summit will discuss the ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China, Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin said Thursday.

The summit will take place on July 25-27 in the South African city of Johannesburg.

"We are at a time when the United States and China almost every week announce new [restrictive] measures escalating the trade war. At this moment, the leaders’ discussion on trade issues is crucial to coordinate positions," Oreshkin said at the Valdai Discussion Club.

According to the minister, the issue will also be raised during bilateral meetings between the BRICS leaders.

BRICS is an association of five developing economies, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which comprise over one third of the world's population.
