Radioactive uranium ended up leaking straight through teh floor at a US nuclear plant, although local state health officials claim that the incident does not pose a threat to water supplies.

US federal state regulators warned about a radioactive uranium leak that occurred at a nuclear fuel plant in South Carolina.

According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s findings cited by The State newspaper, the radioactive material leaked through a 3-inch wide and 6 feet deep hole in the plant’s concrete floor where acid is used.

The NRC reportedly became aware of the leak on July 12.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control has announced that there’s no reason to believe that the uranium threatens local water supplies, though the agency currently awaits groundwater tests on the Westinghouse property.
