The tragedy occurred on a rainy day at 11:30 am local time (9:30 am GMT). A huge section of the Morandi Bridge, developed by architect Riccardo Morandi and built in 1968, fell over an industrial zone sending vehicles plunging 45 meters into a heap of rubble. According to local authorities dozens of people are feared dead.
