MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Four suspected migrants were injured Tuesday when a go-fast boat they were traveling in came under Navy fire off Moroccan coast, local media said.
The injured were transported to a hospital in Mediek, local news website, Medias24, reported, citing a communique by regional authorities.
Earlier reports suggested that a woman had died but the outlet issued a correction, saying it was impossible to say whether there were any casualties.
The boat — a type preferred by smugglers — was spotted by coast guards between the northeastern towns of Mediek and Fnideq, not far from the Spanish exclave of Ceuta.
Security sources told the publication that the Spanish man behind the vessel's wheel refused to obey orders, prompting a barrage of fire. A dozen of passengers on board were reportedly of Moroccan origin.
