Violent clashes between protestors and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on the Gaza border have been ongoing for several months, with thousands of the Palestinian activists injured in the events.

Some 10,000 Palestinians are taking part in clashes with the Israeli military on the border with the Gaza Strip, the press service of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said Friday.

"About 10,000 people are involved in violent riots on the border with the Gaza Strip… Several incidents have been registered, including the throwing of grenades, attempts to cross the border or carry out terrorist actions. The Army has taken measures to suppress these attempts," the IDF press service said in its Twitter blog.

Prior to that, the Palestinian Health Ministry stated that over 50 Palestinians have been wounded in clashes with the Israeli military on the Gaza Strip border over the past 24 hours.

Clashes, which have been repeatedly taking place since late March, intensify during every Friday prayers.

"As of 5.30 p.m. [local time, 14:30 GMT], 52 people, including a 70-year-old woman and a journalist, have been injured," the ministry said in a statement.

According to Israel, its jets targeted a group of Palestinians who were launching arson balloons over the border.

Gazans have been carrying out the mass demonstrations since March 30, protesting on the anniversary of the creation of Israel, and against the relocation of the US Embassy to Jerusalem, which Palestinians consider to be their capital.

For decades, Israel has been in conflict with the Palestinians, who have been seeking diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which are partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity and continues to build settlements in the occupied areas, despite objections from the United Nations.
