Dozens of protesters who marched from the White House to the State Department turned in the petition despite being first blocked by officers from entering the building and then staging a sit-in protest.
On October 2, Khashoggi vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to obtain a marriage document. Turkish authorities have said they have audio and video recordings suggesting the journalist had been murdered in the Saudi consulate.

Protest organizer Medea Benjamin from the organization Code Pink read out loud the text of the petition during the sit-in protest prior to delivering it. Benjamin noted that the petition had been signed by more than 6000 people.
The petition calls on the US government to impose sanctions against Saudi Arabia and immediately implement them, Benjamin told Sputnik earlier.
The protest started at the White House at noon, and participants included a former State Department official, a former diplomat and a Saudi dissident.
