The raging spar between Indian and Pakistani politicians over the treatment of religious minorities ceases to die down with another top leader of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) comparing Pakistan to a “demon".

BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav has claimed that Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's observation on how India should treat its minorities was akin to "the demon preaching the Vedas". Vedas are considered the oldest Hindu religious scriptures.

"Minorities in India lead a good life and their population have shown a continual increase over the years. They have all kinds of rights and privileges here. They have become the country's President and Chief Justice also", Ram Madhav was quoted as saying by the ANI.

​The row between the two South Asian rivals was triggered by a speech of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan who observed that India's Narendra Modi-led government needed to be taught a lesson by Pakistan on how to treat its minorities.

​BJP stalwart Ram Madhav questioned, "Where have the minorities in Pakistan gone? At the time of independence, Pakistan had 9 to 10 percent of its population as Hindus. The minorities in Pakistan have been totally vanquished in the country".

Relations between the two neighbours have been historically tense with them accusing each other of ceasefire violations at the disputed border. Moreover, India accuses Pakistan of harbouring terrorists for political gain.
