Paris prosecutor Remy Heitz said that investigators believe the reasons for the Paris fire were "criminal", adding that latest death toll now stands at ten.
"One man was detained. The man, who lived in that building, was detained at night not far from the fire site," the official told the BFMTV broadcaster.
The AFP reported that local fire service said that the fire had claimed lives of seven people. Earlier, local media said that at least four people died.
The incident occurred at 1 a.m. (12 a.m. GMT) at an eight-storey building on the Erlanger street in the 16th arrondissment of the French capital, the RTL radio station reported.

A total of 200 firefighters are working on extinguishing the fire, according to the media outlet.
