New head of the military council Lieutenant General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan cancelled the state of emergency and night-time curfew in the country. He also announced the release of all political prisoners in Sudan, vowing to "uproot the former regime".
According to the general, the council will govern for two years and then cede power to civilian authorities.

Earlier in the day, Salah Gosh, the director of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), has decided to resign, Sudanese TV reported on Saturday. "The chief of the transitional military council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has accepted the resignation of… the chief of NISS", the official statement of the military said.
Later, head of Sudan's rapid support forces Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo was appointed as the deputy of the country's transitional military council.
The news comes just a day after the previous head of the transitional council, Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf, decided to quit, appointing al-Burhan, the army chief of staff, as his successor.
