US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said earlier on Monday he had discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov alleged Russian meddling in the US elections, according to Reuters.

However, diplomatic source has told Sputnik that alleged Russian election meddling was not on the agenda during the meeting between Pompeo and Lavrov.

“Pompeo did not discuss the issue of Russia's 'interference' in the American elections with Lavrov. The Russian side is surprised by such a statement by the secretary of state", the source said.
