In April, New Zealand's terror threat level has been downgraded to medium following a terror attack in Christchurch that left 50 people killed and dozens injured.

An unidentified man has been arrested following an emergency operation at Whenuapai Air Force Base in New Zealand, NZ Herald reported Wednesday citing a police spokeswoman.

"A male has been taken into custody without incident at Whenuapai Air Force Base, and is speaking with Police," the police said, as quoted by the TVNZ broadcaster.

The police have described the incident as a "bomb scare".

A source has told the NZ Herald outlet that "there was a police helicopter, and multiple emergency vehicles."

"Apparently someone had driven a vehicle into a hangar and was making threats about explosives", the source added.

Emergency Service vehicles and armed police have been deployed to the scene, while roads leading to the base remain cordoned off.
