Light Plane Crash Kills 2, Triggers Forest Fire in Western Portugal - Report
18:40 GMT 09.06.2019 (Updated: 19:33 GMT 03.11.2022) The Sunday air crash that took place in the city of Leiria in Portugal has brought the number of people killed in air accidents in the southern European nation in 2019 to four, according to local media reports.
On Sunday, two people died in a light plane crash that triggered a forest fire near the José Ferrinho aerodrome in Leiria.
The incident occurred at 4:48 pm local under circumstances that are still under investigation. Local emergencies services reportedly said it is unclear if the plane was taking off or landing.

The crash triggered a forest fire and firefighters were called to the scene.
An investigation was launched into the causes of the crash, according to the report.
The crash has become the second incident of its kind this year, bringing the total number of casualties in such incidents in Portugal to four. The previous air crash occurred in March in Bragança and left 2 people dead.
