The man was trying to help a differently abled passenger to board a train.
Shared by Indian politician Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the video shows the man bringing a rickshaw onto a railway platform when policemen start assaulting him, unmindful of his ripe age.
"I demand strict action against the cops who kept their humanity aside and misused their position", Sirsa wrote in his tweet.
Often police harasses the poor & helpless!

As the video spread like a wildfire on social media, a section of furious netizens questioned the police’s harsh treatment of an elderly the rickshaw-puller.
All these policeman must be suspended immediately they have no right to beat anyone like this .... @capt_amarinder ji pls take action.. @priyankagandhi ji if ur free from ur political drama then look what is happening in Congress ruled state .. @RahulGandhi where are u 😀

What is wrong with @PunjabPoliceInd ??? This is the reason no one comes up to help someone these days, he came there to help somebody. It is very wrong and action should be taken. @PunjabGovtIndia @PunjabPoliceInd

Please sack him as a normal citizen, how we can feel safe until man on police duty like this, what they think they can hit to anyone because they are in police, please teach him good Lassen so nobody can do this again

Why police hit innocent man?

However, another section of users supported the police officials, arguing that no matter what the case was, the man shouldn’t have brought his rickshaw onto the platform, which is against the law.
@PMOIndia @PiyushGoyal @narendramodi @AmitShah @JPNadda @capt_amarinder Beating is wrong, But we must check Who allowed him inside ? Why wheel chair was not provided ? What benefits or services Govt is giving to old handicap people ? Lack of security & services ? Action please

PP cant do anything, jurisdation of RPF. Rickshaw puller was wrong, any accident can happen. There are wheelchairs on platform, use them. @NRRPF
— Nav Singh Salaria (@navsinghsalaria) 1 August 2019
There should be provisions like wheelchair and attenders at the platform . This is strictly no way to discipline and when it was to help a handicap .

This is NO ❌ way
how can you give judgement on yourself?? it would have been better if you have asked for investigation!
— Barlog (@youshallnotpash) 1 August 2019
@PiyushGoyalOffc ji im sure their are provisions for wheelchairs on platforms. Getting rickshaw is dangerous on platform & one mistake can kill many passengers. Your attention is required.

Meanwhile, as the news of the incident spread, Punjab Police were quick to take cognisance of the matter and tweeted back to Sirsa, assuring that a necessary inquiry against the accused policemen has been initiated.
We have taken note of the same and necessary enquiry is in process. Thanks for bringing to our notice.
