Police spokesman Sergeant Robert Gomez told a news conference on Sunday that the suspected shooter in the El Paso massacre "has been charged for capital murder", AFP reported. According to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the operation to detain the shooter lasted 21 minutes.
Another 10 people, including the shooter, were killed in a separate shooting incident in Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday, while 27 people were injured. Police said they neutralized the shooter in less than a minute, but not until many had been been shot.
The killings are reportedly being treated as acts of domestic terrorism by US law enforcement agencies.
In the aftermath of two deadly shootings in Ohio and Texas this weekend, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he had phone talks with heads of the US Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and members of US Congress to discuss how to stop the ongoing gun massacres in the country.
Trump added that he would make a statement on the domestic terror attacks at 10 a.m. in Washington (17.00 Moscow time) on Monday.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said earlier on Sunday that the number of Mexican citizens killed in the gun massacre in the US city of El Paso had increased to six.
Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said Sunday, cited by Reuters, that Mexico would request, if necessary, the extradition of the killer, so that he may be tried as a terrorist in Mexico.
