In a Thursday tweet, Trump informed the public that Maguire, a retired US Navy vice admiral, would be replacing Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats on August 15.
....career in the military, retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2010. He commanded at every level, including the Naval Special Warfare Command. He has also served as a National Security Fellow at Harvard University. I have no doubt he will do a great job!

In late July, Trump announced Coats, who notably disagreed with him on matters relating to Russia, China and Iran, would be leaving office on August 15. Coats has served as Director of National Intelligence since Trump took office in 2017.
The president's announcement comes just hours after he tweeted that Deputy Director of National Intelligence Sue Gordon would also be stepping down on August 15.
Maguire has been the director of the NCTC since December 27, 2018, and served as a naval special warfare officer for 36 years.
