Indonesia is part of a zone known as the Ring of Fire which is prone to suffer from powerful earthquakes.
Known for its high levels of volcanic and seismic activity, the Ring of Fire is a string of volcanoes and tectonic faults in the Pacific basin.
One of the most recent earthquakes in the region occurred on 20 August, when a powerful 6.3-magnitude tremor hit the Solomon Islands.
