14:30 GMT 09.10.2019 (Updated: 14:37 GMT 09.10.2019) Earlier on Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the start of a military operation in northeastern Syria. He said the operation is aimed against the Kurdistan Workers' Party and Daesh* and is meant to protect Syria's territorial integrity.
The Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency has uploaded a video of airstrikes launched by the Turkish armed forces together with the Syrian National Army against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Daesh* terrorist group.
*Daesh (also known as IS/ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State) is a terrorist group banned in Russia.
