Outgoing Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf, who served less than a year in the role, will remain a minister of state, a Reuters report says.

Saudi Arabia appointed Prince Faisal Bin Farhan as Minister of Foreign Affairs, according to a royal decree issued Wednesday. He will replace Ibrahim al-Assaf, who has been relieved of his duties in that position.

"Royal Decree | Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud … appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs," the Saudi Foreign Ministry tweeted.

Saudi Minister of Transport Nabil Al-Amoudi was also relieved of his post in the same decree. Al-Amoudi had held the position since October 2017. Saleh Bin Nasser Al-Jasser will reportedly replace him as the new minister of transport.

Ibrahim Abdulaziz al-Assaf was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in December 2018. He replaced Adel al-Jubeir, who served since April 2015.

Following a 20-year business career, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, served as Adviser to the Royal Court of King Salman of Saudi Arabia, and later as Senior Adviser to the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the US. He is a member of the board of directors of the Saudi Arabian Military Industries Company (SAMI) and the chairman of the board of directors of Alsalam Aerospace Industries Company, according to Al-Arabiya.
