The Bek Air airline's Fokker 100 plane, heading from Almaty to the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan with almost 100 people on board, crashed earlier in the day soon after take-off.

Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry said on Friday, that a total of 12 people were killed and 49 people received injuries in the plane crash near Almaty.

The airline's activities were suspended, as well as flights of Fokker 100 planes, similar to the jet involved in the incident.

Almaty International Airport has published a list of 60 survivors who have received medical treatment.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has declared 28 December a day of national mourning, following the deadly plane crash near Almaty, his press secretary said on Friday.

The Kazakh Interior Ministry said on Friday that it had opened preliminary investigation into flight safety rules violation after the plane crash near Almaty.

"The Interior Ministry has opened pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Article 344 'Violation of safety rules and air transport exploitation rules' of the Kazakh Criminal Code. An investigation team has been formed, which comprises experienced investigators and criminal experts," the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Later on Friday, the Kazakh Industry and Infrastructure Ministry told Sputnik that the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) would join the investigation.

"Yes, IAC representatives will assist the investigation, and representatives from the manufacturing plant in the Netherlands will also take part in accordance with the international civil aviation law," the ministry said.

The condition of ten people injured in the plane crash near the Kazakh city of Almaty is assessed as critical, the country's Health Ministry said on Friday.

"According to preliminary information, eight people died on the site, two people died during transportation, two others died in hospital due to fatal injuries. A total of 53 injured persons, including nine children, were taken to Almaty hospitals," the Kazakh Health Ministry said in a statement, adding that the condition of ten adults is assessed as "extremely grave."

Neurosurgery and trauma surgery experts are heading to Almaty from Nur-Sultan, and 40 psychologists are working with the injured people and relatives of those killed, the ministry added.

The Russian Embassy in Kazakhstan expressed on Friday condolences to the families of the victims of the plane crash that took place near the city of Almaty.

"The Russian Embassy in Kazakhstan expresses sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the Bek Air plane crash. We share your grief. We wish the injured a speedy recovery and reunification with their families," the embassy said on its Facebook page.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on Friday over the plane crash near Almaty in which 12 people were killed, the Kremlin press service said.

"The Russian people share the sorrow of those who have lost their close friends and relatives [in the crash] and hope for the speedy recovery of all of those who suffered injuries," Putin said in the statement.
