According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, moose are usually not aggressive, but if one is irritated, or if an animal feels it is being threatened, it can pack a deadly wallop, so it is commended to "run and get behind something solid, like a tree, or retreat to a safe place, like inside a building or car".

Curtis Phelps, a man temporarily trapped inside a shed, hiding from a moose he saw closing in on him, said he immediately called his wife, who ignored his call, presuming it was accidental. Upon finally reaching his wife via cell phone and after getting confirmation that the moose left the area, Phelps escaped the hut and returned to his house.

According to AP, the moose could have been the same calf born in Phelps's backyard just two years ago.
