Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated on Tuesday that side in the US political establishment resorted to the so-called "Russian factor" every time they lacked arguments in the inner political battles.
"When all arguments ns, when there's no instrument for inner political battles, some 'Russian factor' is dragged in. This is a sad reality that we've been facing for several years," Ryabkov said.
The diplomat went on to explain that the narrative cycle which US politicians appear to be caught in is leading to a drop in the level of internal politics.
"[We will continue to] convince them that this [election meddling] is nothing. They have fallen into a trap of virtual reality of their own making… This is a reflection of the fall in the level of domestic politics in the United States," Ryabkov added.
On Monday, US Senators Chuck Schumer and Sherrod Brown were urging the Trump administration to impose new sanctions on Russia, including President Vladimir Putin and other government officials.
Russian officials have repeatedly said that Russia did not interfere in the US political system and have insisted that the allegations of collusion were made up to excuse the election loss of Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton, as well as to deflect public attention from instances of election fraud and corruption.
