Live Updates: Global COVID-19 Tally Nears 1,275,000, as Trump Signals Possible Outbreak Relief in US

A total of 10,824 people have been infected with coronavirus in South Korea, 186 have died from the disease, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

The only death from the coronavirus disease that was registered in that period occurred in Hubei Province, where the coronavirus pandemic started in December.

The total death toll from COVID-19 in mainland China now stands at 3,331, while the total number of coronavirus cases in the country is 81,708, according to the health commission.

As of 21:00 GMT on Sunday, the coronavirus death toll in the United States stands at 9,441 with over 2,250 deaths reported in New York City alone, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Centre.

Over 331,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the United States, which is the largest number of cases among all countries. The US death toll from the viral infection is the third largest, it is surpassed only by Italy (over 15,880 deaths) and Spain (more than 12,400 deaths).

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has confirmed 294 new cases of the coronavirus across the country, with the total number of people infected having reached 1,799, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention said.

The death toll in the country has risen to 10, the ministry added.

The local Haiti Press Network news agency reported, citing the ministry, that the deceased was a 55-year-old man with diabetes and hypertension, which made him more vulnerable to the coronavirus infection.

The overall number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease in Iraq now stands at 961, the ministry announced in a Facebook post.

A total of 279 people have recovered after contracting the disease and 61 people have died

At least 49 people have died from the disease.

Health authorities in Singapore have confirmed the largest day-on-day increase since the start of the outbreak, raising the overall number of registered cases to 1,309.

The global number of those infected with the coronavirus has increased by some 82,000 over the past day, reaching 1,133,758 COVID-19 cases, the World Health Organisation showed on Saturday.

The death count stands at 62,784 people, with over 5,700 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, according to the WHO dashboard.

Europe is leading with some 620,000 cases.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Poland has totalled to 4,102 on Sunday after 268 people were diagnosed with the disease on Sunday, the country's Health Ministry said.

The previous reports released on Sunday morning indicated that 3,834 people had contracted COVID-19 across the country.

A total of 94 of those infected died from the disease.

"Over the past three weeks, they [law enforcement agencies] conducted three million checks in various places, people, cars, etc. to enforce travel restrictions and ensure the safety of citizens. 2,850 people were arrested, predominantly for disobeying the authorities", Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska stated.

The interior minister added that 330,000 warnings have been issued for violating quarantine rules.

The number of deaths from the coronavirus disease in Japan has surpassed 100, media reported on Sunday, citing data provided by the local administrations.

The Kyodo news agency reported that as of 10:00 p.m. local time (13:00 GMT), 308 COVID-19 new cases were confirmed across the country over the previous 24 hours. The overall number of patients is now 4,519, including 712 passengers of the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

The highest number of COVID-19 cases ⁠— 1,034 patients ⁠— was confirmed in the capital city of Tokyo. In Osaka Prefecture, 408 people had contracted the virus.

The number of fatalities amounted to 104, Kyodo said.

The number of people infected with the new coronavirus in India has jumped 302 to a current total of 3,374, the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.

The previous updates from India in the morning and evening of Saturday stated 2,902 and 3,072 cases, respectively.

According to the ministry, the fresh toll of 3,374 cases includes 3,030 active cases, 266 recoveries, 77 fatalities and one person who migrated from the country.

Most cases have been confirmed in the central Maharashtra state (490), followed by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state (485) and the greater New Delhi area (445), it follows from the ministry's update.

The first death from the coronavirus disease has been registered in Ethiopia, the country's health minister, Lia Tadesse, said on Sunday.

"It is my deepest regret to announce the first death of a patient from #COVID19 in Ethiopia. The patient who was in critical condition after being admitted to Eka Kotebe hospital was in ICU care and strict medical follow up. My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones", Tadesse wrote on Twitter.

According to the latest data, the total toll of COVID-19 cases in Ethiopia amounts to 43.

Police issued a warning to Scotland's Chief Medical Officer Catherine Calderwood on 5 April after she broke her own advice on social distancing to contain the COVID-19 spread when she visited her second home this weekend and last.

"I did not follow the advice I'm giving to others, I'm truly sorry for that", she said at a news conference in Edinburgh on Sunday.

She continued by saying that she had seen comments calling her a hypocrite and "irresponsible".

"What I did was wrong. I'm very sorry", she said.

"I don't want to have to take away exercise as a reason to leave home ... if too many people are not following the rules", Health Secretary Matt Hancock stated. "At the moment the vast majority of people are. But we should not break the rules because that would mean that the virus spreads more and we then might have to take further action".

PM Jacinda Ardern has praised citizens who self-isolate, adding, however, that there are "still some people I would charitably describe as idiots", mentioning a man who had recently filmed himself coughing on people in Christchurch.

"Starting April 6, the self-isolation regime introduced on April 1 will become mandatory in Tashkent and Nukus, as well as regional centres”, the coronavirus response centre under the government said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

It added that from 6:00 a.m. local time (01:00 GMT) on 6 April, the use of scooters and bicycles would also be temporarily limited in Tashkent, Nukus, the capital of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and all other regions.

"Large dehkan markets and shopping centres (supermarkets, hypermarkets, and others) will be equipped with pyrometers and antiseptic agents within two days”, the statement read.
