On Saturday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin signed a decree that obliges people to obtain a special digital pass to travel in the capital and the Moscow Region starting 15 April.

Scenes from Moscow's streets two days prior to the launch of a travel permit system. Almost every Muscovite who wants to travel via transport will need to obtain a special QR code from the Moscow government's website.

Pedestrians can still move without special passes to get groceries, go to clinics and pharmacies.

As of Monday, Moscow has 11,513 confirmed cases and 82 fatalities linked to COVID-19, according to the Russian Coronavirus Monitoring Information Centre.​
