A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck off the Honduran coast at 08:04:37 UTC, the United States Geological Survey reports. The USGS stated that the tremor occurred 55 kilometres north-northeast of Savannah Bight, Honduras, with its epicentre located in the Carribean Sea.
The tremor struck at a depth of 10 kilometres in the sea. Other countries affected by the quake include Belize, Mexico, and Nicaragua. There have been no reports so far of any damage incurred by the natural phenomenon.
According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre, there was "no significant threat" of a tsunami.
