Easter, also dubbed Pascha or Resurrection Sunday is a festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion in 30 AD.

Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill leads the Easter Liturgy Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in the Russian capital on Saturday. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the service will take place with only priests, clergy members and volunteers present.

Earlier in the day, the Holy Fire arrived in Moscow from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem to mark Orthodox Easter in Russia.
