Boris as well as another tiger - a female, named Svetlaya - was sent back to their natural habitat in 2014 after being rescued and undergoing a period of recovery. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally participated in their release. The tigers later became a couple, giving birth to at least two broods of cubs.

The famous tiger Boris, released into the wild by President Vladimir Putin back in 2014, has been spotted in China, according to the Amurskiy Tigr (Amur Tiger) centre.
