According to CNN, citing authorities, police are engaged in a standoff with a suspect at a Super 8 motel in Rockford, Illinois. The suspect is barricaded inside the motel, Rockford Police Chief Daniel O'Shea told journalists. Shots were reported at the motel at around midnight local time, with police finding three victims.
The Mystateline news website later reported, citing O'Shea, that the police stormed the barricaded room and found the suspect dead from a gunshot wound after an apparent suicide.
Both the cause of the shooting and the identity of the suspect remain unknown.
