New York City, among many other major US cities, has faced numerous protests and demonstrations over the killing of George Floyd by police officers. Some demonstrations have evolved into violent riots and looting, entailing curfews and maximizing the police presence on the streets.

Protests over the killing of George Floyd by a police officer continue in New York City, as Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a new city-wide curfew set to begin at 20:00 local time (00:00 GMT) and ending at 05:00 (09:00 GMT), to prevent a further escalation of the protests.

Earlier in the week, demonstrations turned violent in New York City, resulting in arson, looting and clashes of protesters with police. The wave of unrest began in Minneapolis, quickly spreading throughout all 50 American states and sparking protests against police brutality in many other countries.
